So, I’ve been reading a lot of point of view books lately, and they are all interesting, and they all offer a lot of useful advice. I have read some of these books, and they all seem to point things out that I had missed. Take for example the book, “The Permissioned Writer” by Gary Snyder. It’s fascinating.
The premise of this book is that the most valuable part of a writer is not the content of the book but the permission it has been granted to create. A writer is able to give his/her books the permission, and then the writer is able to write the book. Of course, the fact that the permission has been granted to create the book does not make it any less valuable, but it does help keep the writer motivated, which is key to writing well.

I know I’m guilty of this. I have a copy of the book and it looks wonderful and I’ve been looking at it for weeks. That doesn’t mean anything though because the book has been sitting in my bookshelf for years. I just haven’t had the time to actually read it. I like the idea of the idea of the book.
I have no idea if I should be impressed or downcast by the idea of a book that will likely sit in my bookshelf for years. I guess I should be happy that someone is actually going to read these books. The book is just a cool little thing.
