The school website is very helpful, including several links specifically to the Washington Technology University podcast. What I found especially interesting was the fact that the podcasts are produced by alumni of the school. What’s so cool about this is that they don’t need to rely on any outside funding to produce their podcasts, because the podcasts are all free (and most of them only have one episode).
As a first-year journalism student, I found the school to be a pretty good place to intern for a variety of reasons. For one, it’s located in the city where I live, and thus provides easy access to the office in case I need to sign a paper. Also, the city is fairly tech savvy with lots of tech companies around. For another, it was founded in the early 90s and still has many alumni with current jobs.
What I found to be the most interesting though is the number of college students who are still working in tech. I know this is anecdotal, but I think it’s because they see the opportunity to have a job in the tech industry and they don’t want to be unemployed for a decade.
I know that I am seeing a lot of these students as they work in tech full time and have a lot of jobs. Although I am not sure how much of that is due to the fact that they are college students, but I know there are a lot of these students that are still working in tech. I think this is because their parents are in tech and they want to be close to their parents.
