Just as we are made of muscle and bone, a person’s self-awareness is made of muscle. It’s the same way that we have muscle tissue on our palms, the backs of our arms, and in our shoulders. That’s a terrible analogy. We only have muscle memory if we have a muscle. And we have muscle memory if we use a muscle. There’s the muscle that we use to use it, but there’s also the muscle that we use to remember what weve learned. And then there’s the muscle that we remember.

The part where I say you read, or watch, or listen, or write, or write, or type, is a bit of a misnomer. Read, I mean. Theres probably some muscle memory that were used to thinking about what weve read, and it probably has some muscle memory that weve used to learn how to read. But theres probably a lot of muscle memory that we use when we read.

The book muscle is one that our brains use to remember information as we read. It’s probably the most important muscle we have. Your brain uses the muscle of reading to remember all sorts of things. We use it to remember the words we read in bookshops. We use it to remember what we’ve read in magazines. We use it to remember the words we’ve heard on the radio.

But I think it’s also a muscle that we use when we read. It’s the muscle of remembering to pause, to put the book down, to stop reading.

The book muscle is something we use when we read for hours on end. In fact, the book muscle is in fact the most important muscle we have.
