Yes, this is a letter. A “letter” is just an informal, written form of a letter. I’m not kidding, here. But it’s an email, a quick note, and that’s what I’m writing.
A quick note is, in part, a way to say that you’re sorry for what you said or didn’t say, or to say that you’re not mad at me.
Im sorry. Its not that I dont think it was a jerk thing to say, but that I dont think it was the right thing for me to say. It was just that I didnt want to bother you, so I just didnt say it.
In the letters that you send, you can write something that you do not mean to say. Or you can write something that you know you cannt say, but feel compelled to say nonetheless. Im not saying that you cant write a letter to me, only that I dont want to bother you with that.
But what if you dont know how to tell the difference? What if you wrote something and it wasnt meant to be? If you write something that you know is not acceptable, you’re going to have to deal with it.
We all know that when we send a letter, if we don’t mean to say what we are writing, or if we know we cannot say what we are writing, we are going to have to deal with it. So if you know you can send me an email containing a letter, but you dont want to send it, you can always delete it or erase it. We are going to have to deal with it, even if we dont mean to.
For me, at least, I dont think I have a choice. I know what I meant to say, but I can tell my editor I didnt mean to say it. I also know that I am sending a letter to a friend and that I am not sure that I will understand what the author means, or if I will understand the author. I do not think I have a choice. This is why I love this job and why I get paid so much.
For some of us, sending a letter or e-mail to someone we do not know might be the equivalent of sending a bomb. We don’t want to blow up a bunch of people’s lives, but we don’t know what we’re saying, and we don’t want to end up in a situation where we have to explain to a lawyer why we are in jail for not knowing what we are saying.
If you really want to make sure you know what someone is saying, you can always do something like an e-mail or letter. This is why I love this job because you can send a letter or an e-mail to someone that has no idea what you are talking about.
