The truth is that the majority of the marketing your students do on your campus is done by them on their own, and not by you. Students are typically very self-conscious about what they are doing on campus, and do it pretty much for themselves. A few of them will do a good job of it, but some of them will do a terrible job, and that’s what you need to focus on.
Sure, it might be better if you have some professional marketing staff to make sure your marketing is good, but that is a job that you can outsource pretty easily. If you’re going to spend a lot of time recruiting new students to your college, you will need some marketing staff. But these people are not for you to hire, they are for your students. Find someone who is familiar with the school’s marketing goals to help focus your efforts on.
The problem is most college marketing is pretty much the same as most advertising. It’s hard to find the right person to focus on your marketing goals. But there are a few things you can do to find someone who knows what they’re doing. First, find someone who knows who your students are going to apply to. Second, find someone who knows what makes your students tick. If you have a college marketing department already, find someone who knows how this department works.
These two things alone could yield a good result. But one really needs to have a strong college marketing department to make that happen. Otherwise, you’re just going to find someone who is more interested in your personal life than in his/her students.
But the best way to get people to apply to your school is to be one of them. Make it clear that youre not interested in promoting yourself, your school, or your department. Youre interested in getting the best people to apply to your school for your own reasons. So say that youre not going to talk about your school or your department. Make it clear that you want to talk about the work youre doing with your students. Talk about the ways you recruit people.
To my knowledge, ewing nj, the school it is based in, has never recruited students for a marketing campaign. I know they have a website, but I think theyre more likely to do a good job promoting themselves on it than to recruit people themselves. For example, on their site, they have a really nice testimonial page that has a bunch of pictures of people theyve recruited. But I would think they would be better off talking about their school.
I think that students are the worst kind of marketer. They’re good at getting you to like them, but they’re not very good at making you want to send your money. Even if you just like them and want to pay for their college education, they have a hard time making you really want to go to their school.
Thats not to say that the school itself is bad. I personally would rather go to a school like Penn State, where I have a really high GPA and love it. But the students aren’t very good at making your college experience enjoyable. For example, at Penn State I didnt make any friends, and I had to play basketball on a bad team. I was in class all day, and I had no idea what the professor was going to say.
This is why for a college, you need to make a point to go to the school and not just the school. Once you move on, the school will take over your life, and you will have to deal with not having friends. This is especially true if your college is a public school. This is why most public colleges and universities do provide some sort of social life, and a lot of students end up missing out on that.
