The title of my blog is one of my favorite self-awareness phrases, even though it is not a novel in a sentence. When you consider that I’ve written about self-awareness since I was in elementary school, the phrase is something that I think is appropriate, but it’s not one that I use frequently.
It seems that writing about self-awareness requires both a lot of planning and a lot of self-awareness.
I would imagine that most self-awareness articles would probably begin with at least a few pages outlining the ways in which we are self-aware. That’s an interesting thought experiment, but it is also a little like saying “I know that I’m a very smart person.” It implies that you have all kinds of wonderful abilities that you are very proud of, but you also know that you are very, very stupid.
In my experience, the best way for us to begin to understand how we are capable of self-awareness is to start by writing about what we are not. So in the case of self-awareness, this means the ability to be aware of our habits, routines, impulses, and reactions. And that is actually a pretty cool thought experiment too, but it is also a little like trying to describe self-awareness without mentioning the self.
The thought experiment is exactly what the title says it is. So, in a nutshell, if you can’t be aware of your habits, routines, impulses, and reactions when you cannot stop them, you are not self-aware.
This is also a pretty cool thought experiment, but it still doesn’t explain why we as a species are so bad at self-awareness. How have we managed to get ourselves to this point? Why do we spend so much time in situations where we are not aware of ourselves? I don’t think anyone really knows. And I think the answer could be a bit more complex than this brief explanation will allow for.
I think most of us are pretty aware of our habits, routines, impulses, and reactions but it doesn’t mean we’re self-aware. Just as most people can’t be aware of a time loop, we can’t be aware of ourselves. We think we’re aware, but really we’re not. In other words, our habits, routines, impulses, and reactions are something we do consciously. It’s a habit, a routine, a habit, a routine, a habit.
But we’re also aware of other things because we’re able to think about and act on these habits, routines, impulses, and reactions. We also know what we can and can not do.
Its funny because I think most people who have been to hell and back, are the ones who can do the most damage to themselves. The fact is, we can be just as bad as those who have gone to heaven, but we can do much worse. The problem with this theory is that most people can stop themselves from doing any damage when they have a good reason not to. Many people use drugs to numb their pain or try to escape their problem.
Many people use drugs to numb their pain or try to escape their problem. When this happens, it seems like it is the drug that makes the person stop being able to hurt themselves, but this is also not true. When a person with a problem uses a drug, the problem is made worse. The problem is not the drug. The problem is the person.
