The three non-linear narrative techniques are: non-linear story, non-linear storytelling, and non-linear narration.
Non-linear story tells us a story with no linear progression. It’s a style of storytelling where we tell a story not by reading it and then going back and reading it again, but by making the story come alive in our heads and bodies. Non-linear storytelling is the process of writing a story that is like a non-linear story, but one that’s not linear.
Non-linear storytelling is a style of storytelling where we tell a story by building tension and suspense in our minds and bodies, and then finally letting our bodies and our minds go to sleep. We then have to write in a way that allows our minds and bodies to rest and dream until we can go back and read the story once more.
Non-linear narratives are often referred to as “narrative-in-motion” or “narrative-as-video”. If you read “narrative-in-motion” you will most likely notice that it really stands for “non-linear video”. Non-linear video is a style of video where the camera follows the narrative more than the narrative follows the camera. By using the camera as the narrator, it’s hard to tell what’s going on with the story.
This is a great example of how non-linear narratives can be used for a story in motion. The video below shows a story about the life of an African-American woman who was part of a slave rebellion in the 19th century. There is no narration, but rather the camera follows the story telling it’s own story.
We’ve seen several videos that have used this tactic of using the camera to tell a story without narration. In One Life to Live, for instance, the camera follows the characters as they travel to the beach where their lives were cut short. In the video below, the camera follows a young girl on a road trip across the country as she tries to find her way home.
This is a great way to tell a story that doesn’t go the expected way. You don’t need to write a huge, bloated script. A lot of people can use this technique to tell a story that is as short or as long as they want. It’s also a nice way of building up a sense of momentum.
It’s like The Matrix, but with a more subtle narrative approach.
Another technique that works well is to write a short story that then takes a turn. A good example of this is the work of J.H. Williams III. He has a number of short stories that he writes that go to different points in the narrative. This is a great way to build up a sense of momentum.
What I love about non-linear fiction is that, it doesn’t try to tell a linear story. It doesn’t try to tell a story that is straight up chronological. Instead, it tells a story that evolves and changes on a different level. Its like watching a film, but with the added bonus of not having to watch a film at the same time.
