I’ve long thought that the most effective way to get your book out there is to let everyone read it. I’ve done this with my books before and it worked really well, but I’ve always known that I’d be doing this with my novel idea party, and so here it is.
Ive always thought that if you got a lot of people reading your book, and then sold them all copies, they would think you were some kind of genius. Well, Ive done this with my novel idea party. Ive had people read it for me and then sent me a couple hundred copies so I could get the word out. And its worked like a charm, Ive probably had people read my book from the start to the end, and they loved it.
My idea party involves giving away 1,000 copies of my novel to some of the best writers in the country. I’ve already had people from New York, Los Angeles, and Boston write letters to me telling me how much they love what they read in my book. This is the beginning of my “literary revolution.” And I think it’s a really cool party.
Sounds like fun. I bet you can get a lot of people to read your book from the start, as well. But I can see how this could get out of hand.
Ive been reading through my book and I think most people are going to have an inkling that they shouldn’t read it just because they like something in it. Even if you just want to say “Hey, that’s great,” or “I like that,” you should read it just because you like it.
The book has to be worth the time it takes to read it. It’s kind of like an anthology of writing. The goal is to collect a bunch of writing that we like and give them to you all at a convention. And you get to read them and discuss them with other people. The book gets better as it gets longer, and then you can make it longer and better by adding or removing stories, which is where the party idea comes in.
You know, the idea of the book came up last week, but after seeing all of the ideas I had sitting around I figured it might be a good idea for the party. So I asked some of my best friends and writing group to come up with a story idea for it. Of course, we tried to find a story that was worth writing about, something that was as good or better than all the others that came before it.
So when people suggested I write a story about a couple making love, it did sound like a good idea, but now a couple of weeks later I’ve had to do it and I’ve had to make the whole thing better, all without telling anyone.
What I’m talking about is the fact that in my novels I tend to use the idea of a scene that will be important throughout my story, and then I have to write it out for those characters to be interested in. I guess this is what happens when you’re writing a novel. You have to find out what the characters want or don’t want, and then write it.
