The fact is that the majority of our thoughts and actions are on autopilot. This isn’t necessarily a bad thing either. Our habits, routines, impulses, and reactions carry us through our lives so we don’t have to stop and think about it every time we wipe our ass or start a car.
People with limited perspectives are often the ones who need to make the most changes. I know this because I think about it all the time. I have a limited perspective about many things, like whether or not the weather will change tomorrow. I have a limited perspective about the best way to get from here to there. I have a limited perspective about what it means to be a human.
People with limited perspectives are also sometimes the ones who get us into trouble. For example, I have a limited perspective about the best way to get to work, about whether or not I’m qualified for the job, about whether or not I’m working here for good reasons. I have a limited perspective about how hard it is to survive, about how many people are going to die today, about whether or not I’m going to survive.
It’s easy to get caught up in those limited perspectives and our personal problems, but most of us aren’t really capable of seeing them. The way that we can have them is to be aware of them. But that may not be possible if we’re in the habit of only noticing what we think is important.
The only way to have a limited perspective is to be “self aware” and use our self awareness to help us see what’s going on around us. The best known tool used for this purpose is the Self-Awareness Questionnaire. It is designed to help people with a limited perspective to see themselves and our own behaviors in a way that helps them identify the important factors in their lives.
The Self-Awareness Questionnaire, developed in the 1990s by psychologist Robert Rosenthal, is the most comprehensive self-awareness measure ever devised. It consists of 26 questions across five subscales, and each question is answered with a sentence. The questions are meant to allow people to identify the factors that influence their lives in a way that helps them determine what to focus on and what to ignore.
The first two subscales, which include the following: Goal-related thoughts and feelings and Goals that are important to me, are the most crucial ones in understanding how to handle life’s “big questions.
The first question in the first subscale is a self-awareness question. “Have you ever had trouble with your mind? Try to name the problems that you have had in your mind.” Well, that’s pretty easy. We all have at times or in our minds, a problem that we don’t know what to do about.
There are a few other subscales to this, but these are the ones that were the most common for the first time I had to read it.
