In the UK, this is typically the case, with most people having a “D” after their name, and a lot of people changing it for one reason or another.

There are some people who call themselves Sammy who are very rarely, if ever, referred to by their given names. They are generally referred to as one-time Sammy’s, and they are extremely rare.
