This is why you need to use the Google APIs. I know this is not a popular opinion, but it’s true.
You’re not supposed to mess with Google APIs, but you should. It’s not like you don’t have a Google API for Android or iOS, but you have a good reason to use the Google APIs for Android. It’s pretty much the same reason I would never use Google APIs for iOS.
Well, the google documentation is pretty clear on this. The two main methods you should use are createCustomSearchRequest and sendCustomSearchRequest. These are the only ones that should ever be used. The other methods are really just for your own personal benefit. You dont need to use google API to do anything, but its a good way to make sure youre using what you would normally go to Google for.
It’s also a great way to avoid Google’s API-style “getCustomSearchRequest” and “sendCustomSearchRequest”. These two methods will only work if you go to Google API and use google-customsearch.com because you have a big advantage with your phone: your apps will automatically be able to get this info when you go to the app.
I really wish android had a way of letting you know what to do with the API-style getCustomSearchRequest and sendCustomSearchRequest. I know for some of our app devs, it’s just a matter of adding this information and it will automatically be sent to your phone.
I was able to get this working with our app developer, Dan, but I’m still not 100% sure the best way to get this working. When I go to the app, I get a list of the requests I’ve already made for the Google APIs, and the same for sending requests. So I can manually try a few queries and see what happens.

It would be nice if Google didn’t send me a list of all the queries I’ve made with the API, but that’s just a guess. That would be a lot of work. It could be a handy trick in the future.
In the meantime, we’ll just have to deal with this. There is no good way to do this other than forcing the phones to use Google APIs.
I know this may sound too harsh, but its not exactly the end of the world. What the error really means is that the Google APIs aren’t yet supported on Android devices, which is a significant change from the Android 4.0 “oomph” in the iOS 10.2 update.
