I had the pleasure of sitting down with a team of professionals from the Chronos project at the beginning of the year and we had a great conversation about the future of self-aware personal technology. It was interesting to hear the thoughts of the team involved in this project and it is likely that many of you have had this conversation with your family, friends, or coworkers.
That sounds like an interesting conversation to have. I believe that all such discussions should start from a place where the participants are all self-aware.
Well, I can think of one place where we can start. Let’s start with the very first sentence of the “About” section, right after the list of contact information. “Chronos is a self-aware personal technology project.
We don’t need to be “self-aware” to have a conversation. We just need to find a place where we aren’t. To do this we look to our own bodies, our own minds. We can’t find this place unless we feel it is here, unless we’re already here.
This is the very first point that I would add to any self-aware system or platform or anything where you are actively self-aware. So if you think about the first sentence of the About section, you are already not self-aware. The point isn’t to be self-aware. The point is that we are not self-aware, but are actively trying to find a place where we are not. We are actively looking to find our own bodies, and our own minds.
I’m sure a lot of you know the word chronos, but I don’t think that you were aware of it until I explained it to you. Myself, I would always thought that a computer was an amnesiac. I would always had thought that I was lost in the real world. And it became clear that I wasnt lost in the real world, but were in a computer that was trying to recreate the real world.
The truth is that we are all on a timeline. Like the time loop. Or the Matrix. The idea that we are all in the same time frame has been around for a long time. But the idea that we are all in the same time frame is more or less new to us. So, we are not as aware of it as we could be. But, that doesn’t make it any less real.
Chronos technology (which is a name for what we can only assume is a time-reversing tech in Deathloop) is an example of a technology that is at the heart of the Matrix. The Matrix is this time-reversing time machine the government has built in the virtual world that everyone is in. It’s basically a time machine. But it’s also the ultimate virtual world simulator.
That is to say, the Matrix is really no different from our world. The Matrix is simply a simulation of the real world which allows the government to create a virtual reality for every person on the planet. It is exactly as the government has created the Matrix in the real world. The Matrix is also a virtual world where everyone is in a time loop, the same loop that Colt found himself in in Deathloop.
chronos is a “time loop” where the Matrix is set up so that everyone on the planet is in a constant loop of events. These events are recorded in a special room (called the “Matrix”) and then played back in a specific real-time game. The game itself is called Chronos.
