I’ll be honest, this isn’t a story I’ve been wanting to tell for a while. But I feel like sometimes it’s good to let a story just get out of the way and get on to something else. When writing a story, you have to let your mind wander. Sometimes a story just needs to get out of the way, and that’s all a writer can really ask for.
The way I see it, the story isnt really the point. What really makes a story work is the characters. The characters are the actors. The characters are what make the story real.
The story has been in the works for a couple of years now, with the first draft being written over a year ago. We’ve also been working on the art, which is the next step in the story’s evolution. We were working with some of the same artists for the last decade, so we still have a lot of great relationships and a lot of great respect for each other. I think people who know us personally can see that.
The characters are the actors. What makes a good story is the characters, and the story is the characters. A lot of the times I have the same reaction to a certain character or group of characters. They go together, but they just seem to have something missing or something that makes them very interesting. It can be the simple feeling of “I want to be them” or “I want to be that character”. It can be the acting.
In terms of the stories we can create in our games, there is a specific moment when a story can be told. Sometimes it is important and sometimes it is not. It is important for a story to take time in the story world, so that the characters have time to develop the story. The story must also have an ending.

It’s hard to imagine that a game that’s so real-world-focused (with the exception of the dialogue, which is still pretty in-your-face) is a “game of death.” But it does seem that the game is in a state of constant development. Built tales will be coming to consoles early next year, and it’s pretty clear that a lot of the game’s story will be a part of the game’s universe.
