Monetary incentives can be a type of reward that encourages people to behave in certain ways. The most common types of incentives are money and other rewards such as prizes or discounts. They encourage people to participate by promising them something they want if the person does what is asked of them (or avoids doing the thing you don’t want).

For example, when I was growing up my family had an agreement with our neighbours so we could use their pool filter for free because she had one; all we needed to do was show her some respect. We were happy to comply since it saved us $300 per year! Incentives work best when they’re used consistently.
