Transverse waves are those that travel perpendicular to the direction of the wave’s propagation. String instruments, such as a violin, create transverse waves on their strings when they vibrate. The vibration moves from one end of the string to another and back again in all directions, so it creates both longitudinal and transverse waves which combine together into what we hear as sound!
