To satirize a definition is to mock its content, with the intent of ridiculing it.
To satirize is to mock the ideas, emotions, or values that a person is trying to express. To satirize a definition is to attempt to ridicule a definition.
It’s not just the words themselves that are the target of humor. It’s the context that’s being mocked. It’s the ideas that are being satirized. It’s the values that are being ridiculed. It’s the emotions that are being ridiculed. There are plenty of ways to satirize a definition, and the purpose is not to ridicule the concept itself, but rather to ridicule the way the person doing the satirical commentary thinks the concept should be described.
People don’t always get it. A lot of people think that satire is about making fun of a person’s intelligence, but it’s not. The intent is to ridicule the idea that the person making a joke has an intelligence they believe they don’t deserve. To make a metaphor, it’s not the intelligence itself that’s being mocked, but rather the idea or the concept of intelligence that is being ridiculed.
I think we all agree that satire is a very serious matter. But the truth of the matter is that satire is often a very honest thing – there is no real point to it, but it can still be very effective in a manner that can be useful to the person doing it.
Not only is satire a very serious thing, but the way that it is used is often very effective. For example, when you are trying to convince a person that they should stop being a moron, the best way to do this is to make them laugh. So if you think of a way to make a joke about someone’s intelligence, you can then make the person laugh.
Some people don’t find this funny. One of my most recent readers (and a friend of mine) says that it “will have the opposite effect of what you intended.
Well I dont find it offensive, but I dont think it’s that effective. I think it would be better if the person who is making you laugh gets a laugh. It could also be that they are just being funny, and I don’t think it’s a big deal, but I don’t find it funny either.
Well, I think it’s perfectly fine to make fun of someone who is dumb, or a fool. If I were trying to make a joke about someone’s intelligence, I wouldnt start by making fun of that intelligence, but rather something like, “I think I’m smart, but I know I’m stupid.
