slang is the use of formal words used in speech.

In the case of slang, it usually refers to the use of informal words and phrases, such as the use of slang in a formal setting, or the use of slang in a very informal setting.

The point I’m trying to make is that using slang in a formal setting is a bit of a cop-out, but it doesn’t have to be. If you speak in public, for example, using slang that’s more informal than you are, you can still be called out on it.

In the case of slang in a very informal setting, theres a bit of an argument to be made that theres no harm, but slang in a very informal setting can be a bit of a turn-off for people. The use of slang in a public setting (say, at an awards ceremony) can be very funny, but people could just as easily use the language in the context of a more informal setting, like at a business meeting.

There’s actually a lot of slang in the gaming industry, but slang in a public setting can be annoying, because it’s so informal. I’m not saying it’s wrong, just that it’s not usually a great choice for a business meeting.

A few places in the real world have slang that is more formal in nature. For instance, a restaurant may use the slang “you can’t eat me” when it means that you can’t bring anyone else to the table. This is because the slang doesn’t sound very good if you use it in a less formal setting.

And as a good etiquette teacher will tell you, it’s perfectly acceptable to speak in a formal manner when in public. So long as its not for a business meeting, or in particular situations where you’re not expected to be speaking in a formal manner.

In the scene in the trailer above, I’m guessing that someone used the slang phrase “cant eat me.” And that is the most common form for the word slang. I think it is because slang is used so frequently that people in the USA would not expect someone to use the slang for a restaurant.

And then someone would use the word in more informal situations because its just not a very common word. If you want to write a blog or something, you would probably use the word in a more formal circumstance.

I think many slang words are just that, used in more formal situations, but they aren’t uncommon in the USA. I have heard the word in a more casual situation, like a casual conversation between a couple in the bar, but I have heard of the word used in a more formal situation, like a formal dinner conversation.

We are not saying that slang is bad, just that it is not common.
