I love this movie. It is funny, and I had a hard time figuring out who the main character was. My guess is that he was an FBI agent who had a bad secret.
The original film, directed by the brilliant Michael Winterbottom, was a fantastic thriller about an agent of the FBI who becomes obsessed with solving a case he’s supposed to be solving. I was more interested in the sequel by the same director, which was quite a few years later. So it seems that when the original film came out, it was a critical and box office hit. It won a lot of awards, and the sequel, which was directed by the same guy, was a big success.
The reason why the original film was a success is because the main character, Agent Dan Brickman, is an average guy who is perfectly competent and very level-headed. But when he finds out that he is not a “normal” FBI agent, his actions begin to unravel. He feels disassociated with his own department, and begins to suspect that everyone around him is either working for or has secret agendas that go far beyond their official job description.
I’m not a huge fan of “normal” people, but I am a fan of this movie because I don’t want to work for or be under one. I’m a very level-headed person who is very well-versed in what is going on around me. And this movie is a good reminder that even though a lot of things are not in your control, there are things you can control.
The movie’s premise is actually quite easy to understand even if you don’t know anything about computers. In order to unlock the first level of the game, you have to collect clues, find a map, and then solve a couple of puzzles. But I can’t tell you how much I love the way a scene in the movie really illustrates how much you can control your own destiny.
